This sermon on Psalm 23:4 reminds us that even in our darkest valleys, God is present, guiding and comforting us. Though the valley may feel barren, it’s often where God grows our faith and leads us toward restoration and peace.

Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

1. God Is With Us in the Valley

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV): “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

James 1:2–4 (NIV): “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face (a valley) trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV): “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

2. God Is Growing Something in the Valley – You just have to trust him.

Psalm 65:9 (NIV): “You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.”

3. God Brings us to Refreshing.

Psalm 23:2–3 (NIV): “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.”

Psalm 121:1–2 (NIV) reminds us: “I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
