November 24, 2024
Kristin Detamore
Message Description
In this message, Pastor Kristin wraps up this series with a discussion about anxiety and the pressures we feel as parents guiding our children through ever changing technology. She brings the message home about understanding when to (and when not to) guide our kids and when to let them figure things out for themselves.

Message Notes

1.  Adversity can make us stronger.

Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

John 16:33
In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.

2.  Adversity makes us trust Jesus more.

You will give God anything when you believe God is bigger than anything you give him.

Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.

Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

3.  Adversity leads to Hope.

Hebrews 11:39-40
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Revelation 21:2-5
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people.
God himself will be with them.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”  And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
