What Are You Waiting For?

July 5, 2026

Message Description
This week, Pastor Zack Searcy reminds us that following Jesus is not something to put off for later. Through Matthew 25, we see the importance of living ready, staying close to Jesus, and building a faith that is personal and steady. Instead of waiting, Jesus invites us to walk with Him daily and live with purpose today. What is one step you can take today to stop waiting and start living ready?

What are you waiting for?

Matthew 25:1-13
Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

What are you waiting for?

1. Don’t Wait to Be Ready

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

1 John 2:28
And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.

2. Make Sure You Have Your Own Oil.

Matthew 25:2-5
Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.

The wise virgins had oil, and the foolish virgins had none.

Matthew 25:8-9
And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for you and for us, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.

You have to get your own oil.

You get more oil by spending time with Jesus.

3. Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

Matthew 25:6-7
But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps.

Jesus isn’t looking for last-minute repentance. He’s inviting us into daily faithfulness.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

…and the door was shut.
