No Greater Love – Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

March 22, 2026

Message Description
In this week’s message, Mardena Detamore, shares a powerful truth: there is no greater love than this—to lay down one’s life for others. Through the life and death of Jesus, we see a love that is not distant, but deeply personal. He humbled Himself, entered into our brokenness, pursued us when we were lost, and ultimately gave His life on the cross. This message invites us to reflect on the depth of that love: a love that sacrifices, restores, and calls us into a renewed relationship with God. Where might God be calling you to respond to His love and extend it to others?

Week 2 – Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

God’s love drives him to be SUSCEPTIBLE!

Philippians 2:6-8

[Jesus] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

God’s love drives him to SEARCH

Luke 15:1-7

Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him [Jesus]. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, ‘This man receives sinners and eats with them.” So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.’

2 Corinthians 5:18-19

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

Romans 5:6-8

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person, someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God’s love drove him to SELF SACRIFICE

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
